I'm adding this weeks home project with some websites that you can use to help with your learning. Remember to use a pencil for your maths and if you have a pen licence, use a pen for your writing.

Home Project – Year 3 (Week beginning 23/3/20)

 

Please find below daily activities for your child to complete while not able to attend school. These activities are centred on activities your child would participate in at school. There are also some general whole school activities too.

Daily activities

Reading

At least 15 minutes per day (Your school book or books you have at home)

English

  • Watch the Magic Paintbrush https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iy2TUvycfeg
  • Discuss the character of Shen and her careful use of her paintbrush to reveal the moral behind the story.
  • Write a detailed character description of Shen from The Magic Paintbrush.
  • Edit and improve your character description and write up final draft.

Maths

Use a ruler, weighing scales, a measuring jug/cups to find the answers to following questions.  Some of the answers will be printed on the products.  If you don’t have any scales, try to estimate the weight.  If you don’t have a measuring jug, use a milk bottle, (which will hold a litre) and try to work it out.

  • How tall are you in m and cm?
  • How many millilitres are there in your bottle of shampoo? (ml)
  • How much does your box of cereal weigh? (g)
  • How tall is the tallest person that lives in your house? Measure in m/cm
  • How high up do you sleep – measure in m/cm
  • Find the biggest potato in the bag.  How much does it weigh? (g)
  • Measure the distance from your seat in the lounge to the television.  (Are you in danger of getting square eyes!?)   (m/cm)
  • How much does your breakfast cup/glass contain? (ml)
  • How many millilitres are there in your bottle of ketchup?
  • If a soup/cereal bowl was full, how many ml of liquid could it hold?

History/Geography/Design & Technology/Art

  • (Geography) – Find out why the ‘Huang He’ or Yellow River are so important in the Shang Dynasty.
  • (Geography) - Draft and write an answer to the question – ‘why was the Yellow River so important in the Shang Dynasty?’

Science

RE

  • Read the Miracle of the Paralysed Man https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxkJAvm5UKs  Mark2 1:12
  • What name was given to Jesus in the story of the paralyzed man?  What does this story teach us about the mercy and forgiveness of God?
  • Make a poster with the title Son of Man.  Write around the title with the qualities of Jesus.

In RE we are in the season of Lent.

We are looking at Ancient China.

Science.

In science we have been investigating plants and how we need to care for them.

  • Create a poster explaining the conditions that plants need to grow.
  • Use the correct scientific language.
  • Illustrate and label.

We  have started back to swimming and the children are trying very hard. Yesterday Kwabena received the first certificate of the term.

The children have settled beautifully into the year 3 setting. Mrs Parker and Mrs Stanoch are really pleased with how hard they are working. This half term they are historians, learning all about the Stone age and Scientists and Geologists learning all about Rocks.

In our English lesson we have been reading a lovely story called Flotsam by David Wiesner and have done some amazing persuasive writing.
