The children have settled well into Year One and have been very busy learning all about Victorian Schools. The children are really enjoying this Topic and finding out what school was like for children during the Victorian times!
We have also been exploring L S Lowry and his artwork involving matchstick people and buildings. The children created some fantastic artwork in the style of L S Lowry.
In Maths, we have been developing our place value knowledge and reading two-digit numbers. We used a part, whole model and dienes to help us partition each two-digit number into tens and ones.
Design and Technology
This half term we have been exploring Victorian Schools. To end this unit of work we designed and created our ideal classroom, taking ideas from Victorian and modern classrooms to help us to decide what we would need in our classroom. We tried very hard to make our models look just like the design.
During poetry week, we read a range of poems that included rhyming words and repeated phrases. We chose our favourite poem and worked as a group to practise and perform this poem, learning the words and creating actions.
This week we have been learning about the artist Sir Wally Herbert. He created artwork linked to the Polar Regions. As Artists, we decided to create some Polar themed sculptures. First, we used our sketch books to draw our designs and then we used some clay to create a Polar animal sculpture. We really enjoyed being Artists for the day; take a look at our fantastic sculptures!
