EYFS GLD Data Clarification

This statement is provided to clarify an error in the GLD (Good Level of Development) data submitted for St Anne’s Catholic Academy.

The published GLD figure of 50% for the 2024/25 Reception cohort is incorrect, as the result of an administrative error. The accurate GLD outcome is 70%, and this figure was correctly:

  • reported to parents through end of year reporting, and
  • submitted to BDES during the diocesan data collection in July 2025.

The discrepancy came to light during internal analysis of EYFS outcomes.

Background to the Error

At the point of data submission the incorrect data was entered in error as a result of the following contributory factors:

  • The Reception teacher was on long-term sickness absence.
  • The Head of School checked and signed off the return, but acknowledges that the verification process should have been more rigorous.
  • The Head of School was working under considerable pressure as a result of a very recent, sudden close family bereavement, which contributed to the honest mistake.

There was no intention to misrepresent the school’s performance; the issue was purely administrative.

Actions Taken

Following the identification of the error, the school has taken a number of steps:

  • Discussions with the Local Authority:
The Executive Principal spoke with Elaine Smith at the Local Authority to explore whether the data could be corrected. The LA confirmed that the deadline for changes was 31 July 2025, and no amendments were possible after that point. These discussions have been logged and the LA is aware of the school’s internal error.
  • Discussion with BDES:
The Executive Principal also spoke with Ted Hammond at BDES to explain the mistake, outline the actions taken, and confirm the additional levels of checking that have been introduced to prevent recurrence.
  • Strengthening internal procedures:
After discussions also with Sinead Smith (CEO), additional verification layers have been put in place so that future statutory data submissions are cross checked by multiple staff members.

  • The Executive Principal continues to support leadership in implementing and monitoring these improved systems.
